'Static' Encoded IP?

Post by skelsey »

Hi Peter,

A thought which has sprung to mind: is there any possibility that the 'encoded' IP address could be somehow linked to the JoinFS instance (a little like a TeamViewer ID, for instance) so that it could remain static even if the real IP changes?

I appreciate this might not be feasible but it would certainly make running small domestically-based server setups a lot smoother!

Best,

Simon

Hi Simon,

there's a couple of ways that I can think of. First is to use the LAN broadcast to find other instances on the network. That's not something I have actually made use of before, but I imagine that it will be possible. The second method could use the hub network as a way of instances finding each other based on some generated ID. I'm fairly sure that's how TeamViewer works, with some server somewhere doing the matchmaking.
