SimConnect Issue v1.0.14

Post by Deano1973 »

Hi Peter,

Just reporting an issue from one of our members. His problems were not experienced by other users in the same session so could be his computer, but thought it worth sharing with you. He posted on our forums a portion of the error report;

looks like simconnect is causing the errors as it is constantly creating pauses and then it adds and deletes airframes making the sim appear to jump around.
each time it adds or deletes it gives the impression of a jumpy aircraft as its redrawn in differing places.

this is not the first time this has been reported.....

unable to upload a test file so here is just a bit of it :-

that was a small portion of whats logged tonight.

Hope this helps with any on-going debugging efforts,

Hi Dean,

if you could get that person to enable logging in the settings and then the next time it happens, if you could post the start of the log output up until the first simconnect error that would help. The log is stored in <User>\AppData\Local\JoinFS\log.txt and there's a log-previous.txt as well which is the previous run.

It's a bit strange that only one person was getting the errors. Perhaps you could also make sure they have the legacy simconnect modules installed. in P3D I think these are in the redist folder and in FSX Steam they are in the SDK folder.

Hi Peter,

Our colleague has saved a full report and I'll send it on as soon as I have it.

We had a perfect two hour flight tonight but I noticed that two aircraft types that had always been visible before no longer were. Upon investigation I noticed that when attempting to select an aircraft to change the model JoinFS would blink and I couldn't select the "Change aircraft" button, which became greyed out. The list of aircraft shuffled about a bit and then settled, but from that moment on I could only see two other members visually in the sim despite 7 pilots being nearby on the airfield. Attempting to change their models really upset frame rates.

Shutting JoinFS down and restarting it did not alter or cure the issue. I'm going to update us to the latest version tomorrow but thought it worth reporting the bug.

Cheers,
Dean

Will just toss this out for what it is worth.

I got something similar back when the JoinFS got everything in SimObjects (including my Hangar folder which the simulator did not "see"). So when I used one of these that were on the list but not available to the sim I got a series of errors that looked (at least as well as I can remember) like those you posted earlier. Maybe something similar (maybe someone with a substitution set from one sim version like FSX trying to use that when flying in P3D). Tossing that folder out of SimObjects (now no longer necessary since you can select specific folders for substitutions) and re-scanning for substitutions fixed the problem.

I also experienced (somewhat on purpose) something like what you described here:

I wanted to find out if I could download and install a new aircraft so I could use it to substitute for a pilot flying the same thing that I did not currently have. So I loaded it into SimObjects/Aircraft and re-scanned for substitutions. The new aircraft did appear on the list as available to substitute (still had to do that because this was a freeware version of that pilot's payware aircraft) so I selected it and clicked 'OK'. That pilot was no longer visible on the sim and kept blinking in and out as you described (I found that if you click on the aircraft when it appears on the list and HOLD the mouse button then go down to the Substitute button it would allow you to access this function. When I selected another aircraft (that was in the sim when I started up) that pilot then appeared on the list and in the sim as expected. I then shut down the sim (FSX, in my case) and re-started. I was then able to use the newly added aircraft as a substitute. So this (or the 'unseen substitutes' I described above) might have caused this to happen.

Like I said, for whatever this might be worth,

Thanks Dan, that closely mirrors what I was experiencing and we also use substitution models at our organisation for when members fly payware that we do not own. It must be something to do with updating aircraft / SimObject files. I will uninstall and reinstall JoinFS later and see if it cures the issue.

Peter, below is the complete log file from my original report above. Hope this helps, and I'll start logging reports myself to better show you what's going on when these bugs show up.

Thanks, Dean, that's useful.

Does the model 'ALPHA Apache Longbow tacpack' come with the default Tacpack installation? I have Tacpack installed but can't see that model.

Is the person who got this log output using P3D?

Hi Peter,

The Apache TacPack is a helicopter model that has been retro-fitted using the TacPack SDK. I have also retro-fitted our Alphasim Typhoons with TacPack and added things like chaff and flare to most aircraft types.

I don't think that they're using P3D - most of us are on FSX at the moment, with an eye to moving across to P3D later as JoinFS improves. If I learn any different I'll let you know.

Hi Peter,

Just updating you that aircraft model changing seemed to be working okay this morning after a quick test. I did however get an FSX CTD after switching to one particular model. I've attached the logs but I don't see anything apart from an attempt to "read or write protected memory" that might explain it.

I also wanted to ask whether AI boat traffic injected into my session would be visible to others in the same network?

Cheers,

Hi Dean, thanks for that.

Yes, that memory error could well have caused that problem. I'll see if I can reproduce it here. I notice that you have a blank callsign for those aircraft. Is that because you've cleared it in the FSX UI?

Good question about the boats. I'm currently adding another list window for ground and sea objects, similar to the aircraft list. There's obviously less information to show, but you'll be able to broadcast, record, and ignore the boat traffic. Will be in version 1.0.17 ;)

The only distinction I can think of is that one of the aircraft substitutions I made last night was from SimObjects>Airplanes, and the other was from a specially designed folder we use called SimObjects>AI Aircraft. These are stripped down freeware aircraft we use to overcome FSX Multiplayer's unrealiable substitution system which operated on Titles, but would then substitute based on weights, engines and dimensions if a title wasn't recognised ( when some users were flying payware that others didn't own ). By using a custom title system on payware aircraft, and with other users have AI aircraft with the same title, the issues were overcome. Clever us 8-)

That's why the ATC-ID and other details are missing from the aircraft cfg entries, to reduce the details and "force" FSX Multiplayer to substitute them in. I wonder if it's causing an issue with JoinFS? I'd imagine not as they're all models and SimObjects.

Great news about the boats! Moving, fully functional carriers in multiplayer - that's going to be world beating! :)

Managed to replicate the issue Peter, this time with a log. This aircraft also is without a call-sign so perhaps that could be the issue as another with a call-sign displayed without problems.

I will try to test tomorrow for further confirmation.
