matching

Hi, just downloaded JoinFS (XPLANE) to fly with some friends who are using FS2020. I'm seeing them as some nightmare aircraft which looks like quasimodo has rearranged the various parts, wheels above wings, lights nowhere near where they should be etc. I'm seeing only default aircraft in the matching list, and regardless of changing the option nothing actually happens in game for me. In the manual screenshots the matching list looks very different to what I've got, with what appears to be real aircraft on both the left and right, whereas I have Default SingleProp and C172 JFS Aerolite_103_default for example.
Anyone know how to fix this or what I've done wrong? I have Xplane 11 and have zero additional planes so I'm expecting to have a limited set of options sure, but I'd at least expect them to LOOK like a plane...
